My ScreenPlay Pro HD seems to have died and no longer spins up, just blinks blue light.

Anyway, I was quite suprised to see on the Iomega website that the disk is still under warranty. They'll replace the drive but I guess that means I'd have to say goodbye to any hope of data recovery.

Any experience had with Warranty replacement? Do they just replace with refurb'd stock?

Are there any hopes of data recovery? (forced signature: 2.120.225.12)

Hi, please sign your name next time so I know who to address this to. I did work with Iomega to get a replacement for my ScreenPlay Pro HD. It was during a time that they had a firmware bug and didn't believe that it was a problem with every one of their devices. But they sent me one anyway. Though they don't typically do this, what they did was sent me a replacement along with a box to return the other one in. Normally, they have you send in yours first and then they'll send a replacement. Yes, it is a refurb, and no, you won't get your data back. Plug it into the computer just to be sure, but if the computer doesn't recognize it, then yeah, the drive is crashed and your data is gone.
There's also instructions on this site if you want to replace the drive yourself. But since it's still under warranty, you definitely want to take that route for now. --JCoug 02:17, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
Well the warranty was good news, unfortunatley, it took me a few days before I got around to request the RMA, only to find that the warranty just expired!! But this turned out to be a blessing as I popped it open to find that the drive is fine and I haven't lost any data. It's just the enclosure that can't spin up a disk. I even tried another working sata disk 160gb and this wouldn't spin up in the screenplay enclosure either.
Looks like I'll be on the lookout for another enclosure.... this time it won't be Iomega...
I might try to find a JTAG on the iomega and see if it is perhaps just a corrupt firmware rather than a hardware issue, but it looks like I'll be looking for a new forum ;-)

btw, I checked the drive on Seagate website, and although the model No. and firmware no. match the ones with an issue, the serial number check tells me there's no update required... I'd like to fix any potentially fatal prob before I put it into a new media encolsure...Klootje 13:39, November 18, 2010 (UTC)
